Sustainability in Practice
At Clare's Little Bears, sustainabilty is part of our day to day life. We put our green values into action, from eco-friendly routines and reusable resources. Discover how we're trying to make a real difference for children, families, local communities and our planet.

Plastic Free Champions
We are passionate about reducing our environmental impact to help protect the future of the thousands of young children who attend our day nurseries. We take every opportunity to avoid single-use plastics, working closely with suppliers and colleagues to reduce their use by finding sustainable alternatives or removing them altogether.
Natural Resources
We strongly believe in the use of natural resources. They are not only more environmentally friendly and less toxic for children, but they are often far more engaging for toddlers than plastic toys.
Natural resources encourage creativity and imagination, allowing children to explore and use materials in open-ended ways. In contrast, plastic toys are often designed for a single purpose, which can limit opportunities for deeper thinking and problem-solving.
Using natural and real items also supports the development of fine motor skills, as children manipulate, explore, and experiment while expressing their own ideas and understanding of the world around them.
From Seed to Snack
We are proud to have our own allotment, where children take part in growing herbs and vegetables alongside our nursery teams. Water collected in our water butts is used to nourish the plants, helping children learn about caring for the environment in a practical way.
The children enjoy sampling their home-grown produce at snack time, while gaining hands-on learning about how plants grow, the importance of sustainability, and where food comes from.
Working in the allotment or on our vegetable patches is a fun and meaningful way for children to connect with nature, build understanding of the natural world, and develop a sense of responsibility and achievement.
