At Clare’s Little Bears Nursery and Preschool, we are part of Operation Encompass, a national initiative delivered in partnership between police forces and educational settings to support children who may have been affected by domestic abuse.
Operation Encompass ensures that educational settings are informed, before the start of the next school day, when a child has experienced or been exposed to a domestic abuse incident. This information allows us to provide timely and appropriate support to children who may need additional care, understanding, and reassurance.
Our Designated Safeguarding Lead and Deputy Safeguarding Leads have received specialist training in Operation Encompass procedures. This enables them to receive and manage information sensitively, confidentially, and in accordance with safeguarding requirements, ensuring that the wellbeing of the child remains at the centre of our response.
The Domestic Abuse Act 2021 recognises that children who experience domestic abuse are victims in their own right. Furthermore, on 24 May 2024, the Victims and Prisoners Act received Royal Assent, placing Operation Encompass on a statutory footing. This means that police forces are now legally required to share Operation Encompass notifications with schools and educational settings.
At Clare’s Little Bears, we are committed to providing a safe, nurturing, and supportive environment for every child in our care. Participation in Operation Encompass strengthens our ability to respond quickly and appropriately to children who may be facing difficult circumstances, helping to ensure they receive the support they need to thrive.
