Forest School
Our topic this week is touch. To kick this off, Miss Sarah took the children on a sensory walk through the forest to see what they could discover. They used a fir cone to store their findings. We found feathers, leaves, sticks, acorn cups, and conker cases. The children then used a variety of fantastic descriptive language to describe their objects, such as hard, prickly, bumpy, rough, soft, and crunchy!
Miss Nikki’s session with Sid the Spider featured some more autumn discoveries. The children assisted Sid with counting his fir cones and conkers. We decided to turn the conkers into hedgehogs, using our fine motor skills. All week, the children have been busy in the mud kitchen making some delicious dishes, such as Gruffalo stew and apple sauce. This followed on from our story last week, Gruffalo Granny.
Miss Marie had a group of children assisting her with sorting out the den in preparation for when the weather starts to get colder or wetter. It’s now looking super tidy and cosy. Well done, everyone!
Wednesday’s group got busy helping to create a new obstacle course using the hay bales. They helped to carry them through the forest, no easy task! Our bears have been busy using their gross motor skills, climbing and balancing.
As the week came to a close, Miss Katie took the children on a conker hunt around the forest. It was lovely to see the looks of delight as the children discovered the hiding places.
