We were thrilled to celebrate World Wetlands Day on Monday! The children ventured into the forest with Miss Sarah, gathering materials to create their very own wetland. They thought about the types of creatures that might inhabit it, coming up with some fascinating answers. Dragonflies, pond skaters, weasels, voles, toads, newts, frogs and fish, all different kinds of bird also were described. This led to a fun description game where the children guessed the creatures, and they did exceptionally well—Summer was particularly great at this!

Mud kitchen
Miss Marie brought in some dried flowers, which made a lovely addition to our mud kitchen. The children enjoyed making tasty petal cakes, which were absolutely delicious! 😋 Together with Miss Marie and Miss Katie, they worked hard to improve the forest floor, which had turned a bit muddy due to the rain. Straw was laid down in the areas that needed help, and everyone joined in to spread it out as a team effort.
Active play
Mud sliding turned into a big adventure! The children had a blast climbing up the hill and figuring out how to safely roll down—so much muddy fun for everyone, including the adults! The rain has provided us with excellent opportunities for water collecting and pipe runs, too! Assort coures were good physical opputunites to master, using crates and hay bales, children honed thier skills to mount and dismount, jump and balance.

On Wednesday, our Bears had the chance to practise their slicing skills with some juicy pears. They counted out spoonfuls of oats and added honey and berries to create a healthy Pear and Berry Crumble, which they placed on the open fire after a challenging fire start—perfect for hungry tummies! We took a break from the muddy Forest and played group games using the Parachute on the field area, also had our lunch in the sunshine at our bench.

Miss Nikki focused on PSHE, leading wonderful daily group sessions to teach the children about differences. This week, we had a focused session where we talked about our differences. Children began by comparing various birds and their unique traits. Then, used a mirror to explore how each of us looks different. The children noticed aspects like blue eyes and curly hair, highlighting the diversity among us. Sadie cared for Log Dog and took for a walk around the forest, stopping to give him a drink of water, all part of our learning to care for other things.

Den
Our den provides us with daily restbites, complete with cosy book corner, emotions lego, maths and literacy resources, nature books and a play kitchen.
Next week we are looking into Friendships and kindness! Looking at how we love each other, our Forest and Planet too!
